There have been several former college players who have, and currently are playing at the very top level, including Carli Lloyd, former USWNT player and Rutgers University student athlete. Alex Morgan, current San Diego Wave and former University of California, Berkley student athlete. Megan Rapinoe, current OL Reign and former University of Portland student athlete.
Again, NCAA Division II soccer is an equivalency sport, the athletic scholarships are distributed however the coach sees suitable for their program. Within NCAA Division II soccer there are 265 colleges that compete and, each team has 9.9 scholarships that are awarded across the roster. Alongside those athletic scholarships, student-athletes can also be eligible for academic scholarships, those are funded based on the students’ academic background and SAT scores. Combining both forms of scholarship can be a great way to help cover a student-athletes tuition, room & board, and books.
