Other sports

If your current sport has not already been mentioned then don’t worry, as at college in the US they offer several other sports.

The NCAA currently sponsors 24 different sports spread across 1,098 colleges with over 460,000 student athletes competing. The NAIA sponsors 27 sports spread across over 250 colleges with 77,000 student athletes competing. Finally, the NJCAA sponsors 28 sports across over 500 colleges with 60,000 student athletes competing.

Some of the other sports that you can achieve scholarships for are:

Track and Field

Scholarships for Track & Field are awarded across the NCAA, NAIA & NJCAA. Unlike many other college sports, track & field coaches aren’t focused on watching footage rather they recruit more based on your results and times. Having said that, each coach will have their own programs criteria on the times and results they want out of their incoming student athletes. These times will of course vary depending on each association and relevant division within those associations. As with the other sports NCAA DI, DI, NAIA and NJCAA all offer both athletic and academic scholarships.

Swimming

Similar to how the Track & Field scholarships are awarded, Swimming is very similar. Instead of coaches focusing on video footage they will focus more effort on the results & times of potential student athletes. Coaches like to follow the high school careers of their prospective recruits to see how they are developing and performing, this can be done several years in advance of the actual scholarship beginning. As with the other sports NCAA DI, DI, NAIA and NJCAA all offer both athletic and academic scholarships.

Rugby

Collegiate rugby is governed differently to many other sports. Unlike other college sports who are governed by either the NCAA, NAIA, or NJCAA, college rugby is mainly governed by Rugby USA except for a handful of NCAA programs. USA Rugby has over 900 college members with over 32,000 student athletes competing. Rugby is the fastest growing college sport in the USA, with Rugby Union being the fastest growing sport in the USA. This opens the door to endless opportunities for potential rugby players who want to combine both their sporting prowess and academic ability to maximise scholarship offers. As with the other sports NCAA DI, DI, NAIA and NJCAA all offer both athletic and academic scholarships.
